Copy Editing and Proofreading
Rose Alice Hoerst has more than 40 years’ experience as a newspaper reporter and editor, covering a range of events from fund-raising galas to murder trials. A graduate of Temple University, she also proofread a book, “Welcome to Exit 4” by Rosemary Parrillo (August Press, 1993). While working at the Courier-Post daily newspaper in Cherry Hill, N.J., she supervised a copy desk of between 7-10 people, handling all copy for business, local and main news sections, double-checking stories and graphics and approving all headlines and picture captions. She also organized the editing and proofreading of various special projects.
She served on the paper’s corrections policy committee and wrote and updated the newspaper’s style book. In addition, she organized and posted to the Web data on 101 communities served by the paper with names and phone numbers of elected and appointed officials, school districts and individual schools and their officials, plus houses of worship and other useful information.
As a freelance proofreader, she has handled everything from college entrance essays to annual and semi-annual financial reports, press releases and Web pages. If it’s in English, it's her business.
